As is commonly the case during the holiday season, I have a number of gigs coming up!
Most notably, I will be playing Handel’s Messiah with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra under Ivars Taurins of Tafelmusik, and I will also be playing an arrangement of the same piece with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra.
I’m very fortunate to be able to play continuo (harpsichord) with Ivars Taurins. Ivars is one of the leading baroque experts in Canada, and he is a wonderful conductor. I always get a kick out of playing continuo, even though it is not my main area of expertise. There are, in fact, many parallels between jazz piano and continuo playing that I will perhaps save for another blog post.
